Is trekking in Nepal difficult?

Trekking can be as difficult as you want it to be, but for your safety and the safety of our guides we need our guests to be realistic on what their abilities are. Treks near the Himalayan border are much more difficult, since the mountains are higher, and the area is more remote. Some technical skills may be required. If you are unsure about what treks best suit your abilities, send us an email, and we'll suggest treks that might be right for you. Some treks, such as Helambu, are great for families, as long as they remember that there are some days of long walking. Again, keep us informed of your needs to tailor an itinerary that is right for you.

What else do I get for my money?

We'll pick you up at your arrival point in Kathmandu, arrange local housing that fit your specifications, and help you get acquainted with Nepal. Kathmandu can be a little overwhelming at times! We'll also brief you on your trek, help you purchase any equipment you might need (there is a North Face, Mountain Hardware, and other stores in Kathmandu). We are at your service

What do you offer that other agencies don't?

We offer our guests the opportunity to visit the projects their fees support. Come see the school we built in Gangkharka, or visit a site where one of our projects are currently being developed. Our guests are invited to stay for a week in the homes of villagers as a 'thank you' for helping them preserve their culture and improve living conditions in Helambu and elsewhere.

What equipment do I need to bring?

Alpine Treks & Expedition Services will supply tents and cooking equipment, as well as the porters and cooking staff. Guests should inquire through this website as to what they should bring. Different treks will reach different altitudes, and weather can change. Check with us for a list of cold-weather clothing or mountaineering equipment you should being/purchase.

I am a vegetarian/vegan/diabetic.

Each trek includes a skilled cook, who can suit your tastes and preferences.
