Cultural Adventures

It is our pleasure to invite you into our homes, community and hearts for a week to see the way of life we are striving to preserve. In our cultural immersion week we will journey to the actual village of Gangkharka where you can meet the nearly 100 children for which VEC is providing a free education. You will undoubtedly be invited to share a plate of dhal bat (the Nepali national dish) and partake in a bit of the local alcohol known as rakshi, if you so please. You will have the opportunity to meet the teacher's and students of the Gangkharka village boarding school, and learn a bit of Sherpa or Nepali from the locals. For an excellent day trip, make the hike up the mountainside to Bagung monastery and Ama Yangri, the stupa on the mountain's peak, which offers tremendous views of Helambu. And, as there are always projects going on, you may even get the chance to pitch in a helping hand and make a direct difference in someone’s life. As in everything we do, there is no attempt at a personal profit being made here.  This experience is free with any trek of 14 days or more and US $80 (5,500 Nepali Rupees) per person. This fee is split between a contribution to our work in Helambu and compensation for your host family. A stay with us in Gangkharka is a great way to get a unique, affordable Nepal experience in which you will have a lasting and positive impact in a country we hope you will enjoy!
